Cardiff Council's vision is to create a World class quality of life capital city. Social inclusion is about helping to ensure that everyone feels able to contribute and be involved in making this vision a reality. The Inclusion Cardiff web site has been created by Cardiff Council and its partners to provide a focus for a range of projects and initiatives that aim to enable people who often have to overcome additional barriers to be involved in their community and the development of the services they need.
Social inclusion is also about encouraging the contribution of everyone to social and cultural life and to be aware of and challenge all forms of discrimination. Ensuring that everyone has an equal chance to be part of the decision making that affects their lives will allow them to improve their standard of living and overall well-being.
To put it another way, this is about tackling ‘social exclusion’. Lots of things can lead to social exclusion, including lack of money, discrimination against particular groups of people, 'physical' problems such as poor housing, no transport or local facilities. It can also be about lack of confidence to participate in society or the skills which may be needed.
You may be a professional specialist who wants to help, an advocate for somepne who wants to participate – or someone who has always felt 'powerless' or that there is noting you can do to change things. You can all be part of working together to share ideas and information. Cardiff Council and its partners are here to support you, listening to you and help in any way we can to make Cardiff a truly inclusive capital city.
