The Action on Child Poverty Project

Priority 20 of the Cardiff Children and Young People’s Plan 2008-2011 is to develop and implement a children and young people’s anti-poverty strategy and Priority 21 is to address the needs of specific communities affected by poverty.

This project is following the guidance in the Child Poverty Solutions - Wales Toolkit  and aims to develop a strategy that will provide a focus for action on child poverty in Cardiff with partner organisations in the health and voluntary sectors that will:

  • Promote social inclusion
  • Improve the application of measures of the extent to which local families are experiencing poverty and introduce new monitoring mechanisms
  • Develop and implement an action plan for improving support for children and young people experiencing poverty in Cardiff
  • Strengthen links with the Communities First / Next programme to improve efficiency and effectiveness of planning and delivery of services to those experiencing poverty
  • Support Cardiff’s World Health Organisation Healthy City status

The Action Plan is being developed and implemented through a Children and Young People Action on Child Poverty Steering Group  that includes representatives of relevant Council services and partner organisations.
